The member of Parliament for Upper West Akim Constituency in the Eastern Region,Hon.Derek Assifo Bekoe has presented 33 sewing machines to 33 males and females on Saturday February 29,2010 at a mass graduation ceremony held for some graduating dressmaking apprentices at Adeiso.
In his speech,the member of parliament expressed his appreciation to the graduating apprentices for their effort to acquire a lifelong skill.He said this was not his maiden presentation to a graduating group though the number of graduands has been
the highest since the mass graduation initiative started in about seven years ago.
Hon.Bekoe took the opportunity to inspire the youth present to desire to learn a skill.He added that,if he is given the mandate to go to parliament for another four years,he will not only present sewing machines to subsequent graduating apprentices but will help them get a shop.
In an interview with the member of parliament after the ceremony,Hon.Bekoe told Tru FM News that the mass graduation ceremony started about seven years ago at Asikasu as part of his vision to empower the youth through skill acquisition.
